Double Dipper
Perfect reflections on a calm lake double the awe factor of the dancing aurora as well as the bright stars that shine through the curtain of colour.
The Big Dipper, part of the Ursa Major constellation, is an easily recognizable and familiar star pattern in the northern hemisphere. It is bright enough to be seen against light pollution in cities and is therefore one of the first patterns we learn to identify in the night sky.
Often the reflection of the big dipper appears even brighter and more distinctive than the stars in the sky.
To create this image I was standing in the calm, shallow waters of the main beach area in Sylvan Lake, Canada where many children and adults alike have gone for a refreshing dip.
