Fading Memories

It’s November. A dense fog has been lingering over the lake for several days. A few signs of warmer days remain… it’s so hard to let go of summer and all of its special memories. But the inevitability of winter is just around the corner.

This photograph was made on the same day that my mom turned 90.

Her life was in transition as her memories became foggy and her ability to live independently faded.

As one season of life fades into the next, we learn to find contentment in each phase, and to embrace the continual transformation that life affords us.

This image reminds me of how the seasons, both literal and figurative, reflect the beautiful complexity of the human experience.
